County-Based Dispatch

Sea Isle City to Change from Municipal 9-1-1 Dispatch Service to County-Based Dispatch;

As some residents are already aware, the Sea Isle City Police Department has been working with Cape May County officials to transfer Sea Isle’s existing Emergency 9-1-1 Dispatch Service to a County-Based Dispatch Service.

After much planning and coordination (and the approval of a Shared Services Agreement between Sea Isle City and the County) this change will officially take place on Monday, December 2, 2024, at 10:00 AM, after which all 9-1-1 calls made in Sea Isle City will be immediately transferred to the Cape May County Dispatch Office, where they will be answered by a trained County Dispatcher, who will solely handle emergency calls coming from Sea Isle City.

There will be no stoppages or delays in service when the public dials 9-1-1 during the transition to County Dispatch – or afterwards. However, once the change is made, the public will notice that the “prompts” have changed when phoning the Sea Isle City Police Department at 609-263-4311 (which is the traditional phone number used for non-urgent situations).

The County’s Emergency Dispatch System is very efficient and will result in the same response times when 9-1-1 calls are made. Also, transitioning to the County Dispatch System will free-up Sea Isle City’s police officers, who previously had to provide coverage for our local dispatch office when Sea Isle’s dispatchers were on breaks or enjoying vacation leave. Those officers will now be able to spend that time serving the people of Sea Isle City “on the streets” rather than covering the dispatch desk.

To handle any “walk-in” emergencies at the Sea Isle City Police Department / City Hall at 233 JFK Boulevard, the public can use one of several phones and/or emergency panic buttons inside City Hall’s Lobby and stairwells. If assistance is needed right away, just pick-up one of the phones or push one of the emergency panic buttons, and you will be connected to a police officer. These devices are located in the stairwells, near the revolving doors on the Lobby’s lower-level, and near the elevator on the Lobby’s upper level (the elevator is ADA-accessible via City Hall’s under-building garage).
