PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
Public Information: While phone and online scams are a common practice now, we want to just update you on one of the recent cases we came across. This recent scam involved a caller that is telling people that they failed to respond to a Jury Duty summons, and they requested payments through a money transfer/bitcoin terminal or they would be arrested. The victims were then told not to call the police, because the police would immediately arrest them. THIS IS A SCAM!!! If you receive any phone calls requesting any kind of payment that you don't recognize, you should immediately contact the police. Remember, if it is a legitimate law enforcement agency, they would never tell you to NOT contact the police. If someone is telling you not to call the police, the very next phone call you make should be to the police. Also, if you receive any calls that you even suspect is a scam, please contact your local police department right away. Recognizing a scam is the first step in protecting yourself. If it doesn't sound right, it probably isn't.
